24th January Metting up with Harry in St Croix

Welcome to St Criox, the tourist stopover with very little for tourists. Once again we were both wide awake at 6.30am, despite having stayed up way beyond our usual bedtime last night. Still it did give us the chance to watch the Carnival Dream cruise ship with 4,000 plus passengers on board arrive alongside us, framed with yet another arching sea rainbow. Although just how a ship full of 4,000 plus Americans can be anyone's dream is beyond my understanding. Still plenty of chance for TOM to continue his sledgehammer enquiries into "how y'all think Trump is doin'?"

According to on board gossip even Captain Derek didn't think there was much to do in St Croix, unless the thing that floats your boat is rundown buildings, chickens and cars that would never pass an MOT in a month of Sundays. Our tour of the town completed in 30 mins, with 5 of those sheltering from another deluge, we didn't need to see the dilapidated fort or spend God knows how many dollars on two sun beds and an umbrella on a not very nice beach.

So as on Isla Catalina we wandered for 10 mins further along the seafront until we found a better location just outside the firmly locked and bolted St Crois Country Club. We even spotted our very own version of Harry from 'Death in Paradise. With neither of us venturing into the rock strewm waters of the Caribbean, by 11.30am we were heading back to ship, swimming against the stream of Americans coming ashore from the Carnival Dream, presumably after breakfast, brunch and elevenses.

The afternoon took care of itself, finishing off my book and then 30 mins up in the free steam room (well I have to get the alcohol out of my system somehow). And tonight, instead of dining alone, we joined Paul and Amanda, a couple we had set next to when we had our Italian treat. This was fine but it meant service took just that bit longer meaning we missed the 7.30pm performance in the Broadway show lounge.

I am not sure if it's the later start times, but both TOM and I have thought the last two shows have been quite poor with limited storyline, poor sound quality and just lacking that 'something' that have made previous shows so good.
