20th January La Romana
Today I have spent a good percentage of my time trying not to make 'that face'. Apparently it's one that I make quite regularly even if I don't know I am making it. But according to TOM I make it quite lot of the time especially when we are doing something together. That could be a trip out shopping, a visit to the theatre, or even just staying in the house and watching (trying to decide what to watch) on TV. But holidays are a prime example if where it might happen. A lot.
It might happen whenever he makes out that he has never been to an airport before and doesn't know what to do, or is never had to find his passport and ticket. It might appear when he hasn't taken all the metal things out of his pockets / off his body before security, or when he attempts to stand up from a chair using crutches as if its the first day he's had them. There is a possibility it could creep across my face as he struggles to put a small day rucksack on or has attempted to shorten his trousers and still left them 3 inches too long. It would definitely be in situ if he efused to tell me he didn't like the Christmas present I bought him so that I could have exchanged it for a different one or got a refund,
So as you can imagine trying to keep 'that face' off my face is a full time job. But today I think I have been successful or at least TOM hasn't remarked on its appearance.
So here we are in La Romana in the Dominican Republic after an 8 1/2 hour flight made up of three trashy films, an aircraft meal, a snackette and as many alcoholic beverages as we were allowed. And my first impressions of Marella Discovery...uhm. But let me put that into context.
After two cruises with P&O, we jumped ship last year and took out first jolly with Marella on board Voyager, which had for both of us a real 'WOW' factor. Discovery on the other hand, has been more of a 'wow' factor. There is nothing wrong with the ship, it's just a bit different to Voyager. A bit more dated, it feels smaller, there initially seems bit less choice and number of venues to visit /sit., there even appears to be less storage in our room which considering I have brought more clothes changes than Taylor Swift used during her Eras tour, is a bit of an issue.
It could also be that because it's been a hectic week leading up to this break, and then a long, long day getting here, that I'm just feeling tired and so perhaps first impressions will change after a good night's sleep.
