11th January Chickening out

It's always best to start off the NY with the best of intention but also to ensure that those intentions are well and truly shattered by the middle of January.

Now somethimes these intentions, I am refusing to call them resolutions, are made at a time when the mind, body and spirit are all being overwhelmed with concepts such as hope, possibility and a complete lack of perspective. Jump forward a few days or even weeks and the cold dawn of reality finally shows just how foolish those plans were in the fist place.

I mean, sat in the warmth of a comfortable armchair, doomscrolling the interweb,  what could sound easier than a 21 mile spring jolly around the Peak District, covering various landmarks, hills and 'edges'. Well how about this for sounding easier...not doing a 21 mile spring jolly around the Peak District, covering various landmarks, hills and 'edges'.  I mean it's even easier to say.

With the cold weather, the dark days and a 15 day Caribbean jolly slap bang in the middle of any training schedule, the sensible option has been to withdraw from the Grindleford Gallop (for this year!!) whilst I was still within the cut off time to do so  without losing all the entry fee.

But all is not lost because I have replaced it with an entry into the Chicken Run fell race at a mere 14km. And as some of the Stonehills Running club will also be attending the same event it means not only will I have company bringing up the rear of the field, but also hopefully someone to share in a post run cake and coffee fiesta once the finishing line has been crossed.
