11th October Chatsworth loop

With TOM heading off to Sheffield on one his 'old lady shoping trips', I had the day to myself to try and get a little bit longer run under my belt in preperation for Benidorm. Where the word 'longer' is off course relative to my usual pedestrian plods.

With a lovely day promised and a desire to both run some trails but also some hill, I had the choice of joining what would have been a sedate but enjoyable trip with the Youlegrave Harriers for a 7 mile jolly round Hartington or heading out on my own for a longer, almost 10 mile loop, from Rowsley around Chatsworth house and grounds and back to Rowsley on my Jack Jones. In the end the latter won out.

I had hoped to run with my in ear headphones whilst listening to some banging tunes from my phone. Unfortunatly the headphones didn't seem to want to pair up with the phone or when they did it was as such a low volume I couldn't hear the song over my huffing and puffing.

So being true to my nature of always thinking about others, I simply slipped the phone into the side mesh pocket of my running pakc, turned the volume up to 'LOUD' and shattered the peace and quiet of everyone else out for a sedate stroll as a I ran like a mobile Glastonbury across the fields.

Trying to run to the pounding beat certainly helped getting up those slopes and hill behind Chatsworth house as I headed up to the Hunting Lodge and then across onto Beeley Moor on what was by now a gorgeous day. The sun streamed through the trees whilst a carpet of fallen leaves, chestnut and assorted debris carpeted and cushioned my footsteps.

Just under a couple of hours later, soaked in sweat and ready for a vigourous rundown I was back where I started, the first of what I hope will be several longer runs that I have planned over the next couple of weekends with a Carsington reservoir  and then Monsal trail trip being on the cards. Let's hope the abililty matches the inclination.
