27th September Better than it felt
This morning I had the opportunity to run my first park run in absolutly ages. This is mainly because when I am over at TOM's, there isn't one that's either near or enticing enough to get me to the starting line, never mind across the finish line. But as he was gracing me with a 'state visit' this weekend I thought I'd take the opportunity to go to my closest, and also the most undulating, Bestwood Village park run.
Now tomorrow is the Robin Hood half marathon in Nottingham city and so a lot of the more 'serious' runners would have been saving themselves, and so numbers were down. But that didn't mean that my finishing position would be any higher.
I did wonder given the amount that I have been running, okay I'm not at the Mo Fraah level, perhaps closer to the Mo Mowlam state, that I would find a mere 5km easier than usual. Sadly that went out of the window even before the first of two short sharp hills. Even trying to tag onto the tails of some of the others runners didnt seem to help.
Thankfully it is the kind of run where the second half is definitely a long downhill drift rather than the initial uphill slog but still the legs didnt feel as if I was doing more than running to stand still. And don't even ask me about the lungs!!
so it was a pleasant surpsise after crossing the finish line that I realised I had run my third quickest time over this course, out of at least 11 attempts. Not by minutes but still having felt so rough running, I will take that as a win. I still don't know how I ever managed to run my quickest time here back in 2019, with a time almost two and a half mins quicker than today.
Still I will take today as an unexpected win. Roll on the 10 mile Curbar Commotion next weekend which will be exactly as bad as i expect it to be.
