25th March Playing my joker card
So today was the first annual review since tsudden and surprising diagnosis with type 2 Diabetes last year as a result of a 'Well Man' MOT showing I wasn't quite as well as I thought. I've had various mini checks during the year but this one is the one that would give me an overall idea of how things are going after a year of being on medication.
The good news is that on the whole things are much better than they were a year ago. My sugar levels are down, my weight is stable, my BP is fine, the oxygenation on my blood is great, my feet have no issues with sensitivity or wounds failing to heal and my other organs appear to be in fine fettle. The only slight blip has been an increased in my bad cholesterol.
On receiving this slight setback I did manage to play my joker card by explaining to the diabetic nurse that having my blood takes 24 hours after returning from a two week caribbean cruise was perhaps not the ideal time and that I would have been a well behaved boy whilst on board if I hadn't been led astray by TOM and his insistance that carrying three calorie laden deserts back from the buffet every time was the best way for me to avoid sea sickness.
And you know what it worked!!
