20th March The Wigan lads done good

If my memory serves me correctly, and there is no guarantee that it does, the last live concert I attended was almost exactly two years ago to the day when I went to Rock City in Nottingham to see what are arguably the best / second best / band from Wigan.

And before you all shout out, yes I know that there are not a lot to chose from and that George Formby wasn't a band. I am off course talking about The Lathums who for some unknown reason are not as well known as they should be.

Fresh on the release of their 3rd album, Matter does not define' the boys from the capital of the Promised Land, produce a fabulous mix of energetic, infectious, toe tapping indie pop which despite bein upbeat is often quite dark in its lyrical content and subject matter.

With a mix of old favourites and new material, many of the songs include great sing along choruses which the crowd at sell out venue joined in with word for word, very loudly. Apart from the group of four behind me who seemed to spend the entire gig not even looking a the stage but chatting to each other, which seemed a really pointless way to spend a Thursday night and £35.

Led by the charistmatic frontman Alex Moore, with his amazing voice and  'thank you very, very much' catchphrase the band were as tight as a Yorkshire man during their 90 set of 20 songs. And of course the place went mental during the final encore of Sad Face Baby which saw 16 and 60 year olds bouncing around with reckless abandon. A great night out.
