10th March Joining the 21st century
So after 61 years of never really wanting or finding the need to have one, I now have a mobile phone.
Having discovered an unused but soon to expire gift voucher in my wallet I've been really strugging to decide what I should spend it on before it expires in a months time. I was going to use it to buy some walking shoes for the trip to Spain later in the year but discovered that the store where I had seen the shoes didn't accept the card. So Plan A was out of the window
And so having pondered various other options I have splashed the cash on a Samsung Galaxy A16 mobile, which will have more than enough bells and whistles for my basic need, especially as I will not be using this a great deal and so will not now have to begin the process of having my hand moulded into the particular Mobile holding shape.
But I hope it will prove useful in emergencies, for finding directions / places especially when walking the Camino Del Norte later on in the year, and also for taking photographs rather than having to carry my digital SLR and all its associated paraphinalia with me. Plus there are no extra European roaming charges until the end of 2026 so I will at least be able to keep in touch with TOM. And all for £9.50 a month.
The process itself was less painful / embarrassing than it coud have been with the lovely lady in the Tesco mobile shop doing all the heavy lifting which started with actually getting the phone out of the box...lol. God only knows how long it would have taken me to insert the SIM card and then set up the actual phone. Thankfully I didn't have too as I would still have been there when the store shut at 10pm.
I now have roughly 3 months to get to grips with using it. Expect regular updates on my lack of progress.
