14th August Banging the drum
On Monday we have had our 3rd Holiday at Home; only one more to go and then I will be ready for a holiday away!! It's been good fun and people have enjoyed it but it's also been a lot of hard work. Today we had a right old mix of stuff.
After a gathering cuppa and chat giving people a chance to get to know each other, we kicked off with an hour of arts and crafts some of which is displayed here.
Later on in the day we all sat down for a sumptuous summer salad lunch and then had a guided tour of St Mary's church just over the road which in case you didnt know is the final resting place of the poet Lord Byron.
Sandwiched in between all that was a very enthusiastic and noisy drumming circle led by one of my colleagues Peter. Sat in a large circle in the worship area of the church we heard a little bit about the instruments we were going to play and then beat, banged and generally battered the 'be'Jesus' out of a selection of Djembe drums.
It was great fun and the sight of 24 pensioners providing the thunderous backbeat to 'We will rock you' by Queen is something I won't forget in a hurry.
