28th Sept Hypnotically gorgeous
So time for another tune me thinks. This one caught my ears last week driving back from the Local Preacher's meeting, something that is enough to test the patience of even the most saintly of saints. And then this drifted through the airwaves and the dark night got just that touch brighter.
I knew who it was pretty much straight away; Matt Berninger, front man and singer with The National, has a voice that is so distinctive. What I didn't recognise was the tune.
Turns out it is a collaboration with the wonderful Bon Iver entitled 'Wierd Goodbyes'. It is a song that I assumed would be found on their latest CD but according to various internet forums apparently not, which begs the question, if this stunner didnt make the final cut, just how good are the ones that did? Per chance I need to splash the cash and fins out.
accoring to Berninger it's a song about "letting go of the past and moving on, then later being overwhelmed by second thoughts. Mourning the loss of innocence and motivation, holding onto memories and feelings that will inevitably slip away and the grief we all suffer in weird goodbyes.
Anyway enough blather from me. Just sit back, relax and drift...
