10th Sept A busy few days
Hopefully tomorrow I can stop running in order to stand still, as it has been a busy few days.
Friday, although it is a day off, seemed to be pretty crammed as TOM can to stay for the day. And not wanting to remain in the same old routine of reading the Daily Mail from cover to cover, we headed out for the church coffee morning and an opportunity to try to glean some information from what I will term ' regular cruisers' as TOM has decided that a river cruise might be the order of the day for next year.
Then it was a sedate stroll around Burnstump Park before lunch out. We had planned on a little excursion to the Bennerly Viaduct in the early evening but with temperatures still soaring that was put on hold for another day.
With TOM fed and dispatched back to Matlock by 8am on Saturday, it was time to go and set out the churches stall for Hucknall Community Day organised by the Rotary Club. It was a chance for the church to get out of the building and into the community But I wish it hadn't been on the hottest day of the year.
Due to run from 10am - 3pm, by 1.30pm the crowds that had been there earlier on had shown common sense and retreated back indoors. And so did I, after all three and a half hours hours in the hot sun, or even under the shade of a canopy was enough for me. But there was no rest for the wicked and the evening was taken up with a church quiz, this time all about TV.
And today has been busy too. Two church services, including one at a church I am taking over for the next 12 months, was followed by a community lunch at which a potential kerfuffal was thankfully defused. Then it was across to Nuthall for the welcome service for two new ministers who have joined us here in the Nottingham North East Circuit; a lovely occasion even if the chair of District didn't head my plea to be finished within the hour.
