13th May Bristol leftovers
Yesterday it was a toss up whether we hit the road and went to visit somewhere further afield or stayed close to home. In the end there wasn't really a discussion as TOM wanted to visit a few places in the city we hadn't had chance to have a proper look at earlier in the week.
With the trains being on strike it meant a trip into the city centre on the bus, which seeing as it left from a mere 100 yards from our AirBnB, meant we didn't have the 1/2 km walk to the railway station. And seeing as TOM could use his free bus pass, and I could buy a multi trip day ticket, it turned out to be nearer, cheaper and just as quick.
We wandered around Cabot Circus, the shopping part of the city, but we were there before much of it had opened or certainly before there were many shoppers about. We even passed by John Wesley's New Room but the spirit didn't direct either of us to pause and go inside.
As for the rest of the day, well we meandered, we stopped, we daudled, we paused, we plodded, we perused then paused some more. Sometimes it involved coffee, at other times just people watching or havign lunch and on one occasion we simply stopped to read.
The weather was lovely if a little breezy at times, as we sauntered at a sedate pace here and there, searching in vain for something indeed anything connnected with Nic Park and Aardman animations, creators of Shaun the Sheep and off course Wallace and Gromitt.
Together with Banksy, (of which we didnt see any either) these characters are surely the most contemporary connection people have with the city, well apart from the depositing of racist statues in the harbour, but we couldn't find anything. Looks like we should have visited back in 2013, 15 and 18 when the city was host to series of instalations called Gromitt Unleashed and Shaun in the City trails.
