12th February Threading my way round Darley Dale

Yesterday I ventured out to my very first Whitworth Thread. No, I haven't been inspired by the Joe Lycett and now Sara Pascoe led Great British Sowning Bee, although to be honest soem of my socks could do with a bit of TLC.

Rather it is a kind of Park Run that is not actually a Park Run, run in Whitworth Park, Darley Dale, which for those of you who don't know your Derbyshire geography is just outside Matlock on the route to Bakewell (and other places)

Only run on the 2nd Saturday of each month it does not have all the officialness of a Park Run ie no bar coded tags to pick up as you cross the finish line to help record your time, rather this was a much more basic and smaller affair with only 60 or so runners turning up.

And becase it was three laps of the park it gave those just starting out on the couch to 5km program, together with some younger runners the chance to do one, two or three loops.

The run itself was what I might describe as twisting with slight undulations that got more undulating on the 2nd and 3rd loops especially as I knew what was coming up after completing the first one. What made it 'slightly' more of a challenge was that fresh from my 14 mile jolly last Sunday, I decided to run from TOM's to the start of the race, adding another 5 1/2 miles on what should have been a 3 mile jolly.

And despite being kitted out in what was described by the race officials as 'well we won't lose you' oufit of flourescent yellow, this was the best picture that several phorogrphers dotted around the course managed to capture as I bore down on my main rival in the race!!!
