18th February When two tribes go to war


Back in the 1980 Frankie Goes to Hollywood sang an anthem of the cold war with the classic ' Two Tribes' featuring a wrestling match between US President Ronald Reagan  and Konstantin Chernenko, Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, Now it seems that their song is about to come true.

Once part of the same all conquering team, now the bitterest of rivals, it was only a matter of time before things came to a head. With the worlds news glued to every move and counter move and with both sides refusing to give an inch in this terretorial tangle, all out war seems only a matter of time. 

With one side gathering their attack forces ready to invade, the other side has been forced to put up a once in a lifetime line of defence, with grandmothers promising to lay down their life for their loved ones. Each side firmly belives that they are in the right and appear unwilling and indeed unable to step back from the bring of arrmagedeon.

Two different ideologies have emerged, despite coming from similar background and having assumed their positions of power and influence by innumerable covert operations and secret missions.If it all goes nuclear and then there will be no winner at all.

Attempt to try to inflitrate the communcation networks via cyber attacks and laying false information trails, this conflict has the potential to leave carnage left on both sides with even the victorius sustaining potentially fatal wounds from which they might never recover. This global catastrophe in the making is perhaps the only thing that could draw the UK's attention away from the Downing Street parties.

Even presidents and prime minister have tried to intervene, perhaps in vain, to bring the two sides around the negotiating table to try and hammer out a peaceful settlement. Meanwhile the world can only hold its breath and wait...wait for the outcome of conflict between Russia vs Ukr...oh sorry I mean Coleen Rooney vs Rebekah Vardy.

6th May Olbia

  A chance to stretch our legs today with our first port of call; Olbia, Sardinia. And it was a quick stretch too due to it being only a five hour stay. Up bright and early, so early in fact that the hot food at the buffet wasn't even ready to be served. Still it gave us a chance to watch the ship glide into port past a host of oyster/mussel beds, before performing a 180 degree turn to reverse into it's berth. A couple of short bus rides later and we were in downtown Olbia. But there an hour or so before anything appeared to open, the disadvantage of being early birds and something we don't seem to learn! Not that Olbia had a great deal to see or maybe if we had done the slightest bit of planning beforehand there might have benn but we didn't. It was pleasant enough but that's about it. 7th May Naples

 I'm sure I've heard the phrase 'see Naples and die' suggesting that it is perhaps not the nicest location in the Mediterranean but if it's good enough for Diego Maradona fir a few years then it's good enough for me for 10 hours. Although the millions of tax free pounds he was paid might have eased his stay. By the time we got up, washed, dressed and up to The Kitchens, the rest of the ship were already there. Compared to the Marie Celeste of yesterday it was absolutely packed, presumably with people having breakfast before heading out on 8am excursions, our excursion was simply going to be the city of Naples itself as possible trips to Vesuvius, Pompei or the Amalfi coast would have been too much / tired.  So on a day when the weather initially seemed uncertain, we jumped aboard route A for the Hop on Hop off bus and headed out into the mayhem that is the Napoli traffic where it was every van, car and scooter for the selves.
