20th July Passing the Covid baton
With three days to go before the opening ceremony of the Tokyo Olympics actually takes place, Team GB is already putting down an early marker in the Covid 19 infection table with eight self isolations. Closest rival South Africa is struggling way behind with a mere three infections whilst the superpower of the USA have barely even got out of their starting blocks with a pathetic one.
Team
GB's prospects were dealt a blow pre games when the owner of the
nation's favourite long distance tickly cough, Mo Farah, failed to meet
the qualifying standard. But the rest of the team appear to have got off the mark before the B of the BANG, with the head of UK athletics, Hopskippe N'Jump, revealing that Team GB was already way ahead of predictions with gold medal covid self isolation performances at check in, on the plane and in the athletes village. Further strong showings are expected in the warm up areas and competition venues at multiple locations around the city over the next fe weeks.
Team GB is expected to put in a particularly strong finish in the relay events. Although having said that the British athlete's ability to actually pass a baton through four pairs of hands successfuly is highly questionable and that is even without throwing the factor of slippery sanitised hands into the mix.
So just watch this space, to not watch your favourite athlete compete after a positive test.
